The Opopanax resin comes from East
Africa, primarily it is collected in
Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan through scratch
of the bark of some incense tree family. The
Opopanax resin smells woody-balsamic,
slightly sweeter than myrrh.
Opopanax resin is smoky and so has a
calming effect. In the past
Opopanax was smoky to deter evil
spirits and protect the living spaces. The
resinoid of Opopanax is also used in
perfumery.
